UPCOMING EVENTS

Open-Government Hotline

Ask the experts! If you've been denied access to a public record or public meeting, or if you just have a question about sunshine laws, the Open Government hotline is available year-round at (888) 843-9121 or info@nmfog.org.

Sunshine Roadshow

FOG has participated in the New Mexico Attorney General's Sunshine Roadshow for nearly two decades. This traveling seminar visits communities throughout the state to teach the nuts and bolts of public-records and open-meetings law. Check the Attorney General's events calendar to see if the Roadshow is headed your way.

Open Government Academy

FOG debuted its first-annual Open Government Academy in March 2011. This one-day seminar is designed to give you all the skills and tools you'll need to become an informed, engaged citizen — from obtaining public information to connecting with your state and local officials. Click here to access presentations and links from the 2011 Academy.

Custom Trainings

We love talking about open government. Whether you want to learn the nuts and bolts of sunshine laws, or discuss hot topics in the freedom-of-information movement, FOG is available to speak to your agency, office or organization. Please contact us to inquire.

Research

In fall 2011, FOG will be releasing its first annual report analyzing open-meetings and public-records complaints submitted to the Attorney General's Office — identifying common violations and offering recommendations for all parties. If you have a research question that you'd like to explore, please contact us.

The design and content-management system for the new FOG website (launch date 7/20/11) is supported by funding from the National Freedom of Information Coalition, through a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
Established in 1950, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation makes national grants in journalism, education and arts and culture. Its fourth program, community initiatives, is concentrated in 26 communities where the Knight brothers published newspapers, but the foundation is wholly separate from and independent of those newspapers.
