Bernalillo County staff will present the County's
new transparency portal at tonight's Commission meeting, and they have reason to be proud. Based on a sneak preview of the portal last month, the County has built a user-friendly site packed with real information and features that go above and beyond New Mexico's other portals -- including links to scanned contract documents.
There will likely be questions and comments on what's missing or could be improved, including complete lists of employees and salaries (all of New Mexico's portals should follow the
example of the City of Chicago in that regard). This is the initial launch, and user feedback will be important. But the County deserves credit for taking this big first step and for working so quickly to launch the service.
