Sarah Welsh

Do you know someone in New Mexico who really gets open government? Someone who understands that a democracy can’t function properly unless the public is informed and engaged? Maybe you’ve seen someone implement programs or push for reforms to ensure that the greatest possible information is available to the public.

If so, please nominate that person for a 2011 William S. Dixon First Amendment Freedom Award. (More info) The Award is given to individuals who have advanced open government in New Mexico in one of five areas: Law, Journalism, Education, Business and Government. To nominate your open-government hero, submit a letter or e-mail describing their accomplishments to info@nmfog.org or NM-FOG, 115 Gold Ave. SW, Suite 201, Albuquerque, NM, 87102. The submission deadline is July 8.

Disclosure is an act of bravery. Help us reward those who have acted bravely!

The design and content-management system for the new FOG website (launch date 7/20/11) is supported by funding from the National Freedom of Information Coalition, through a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
Established in 1950, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation makes national grants in journalism, education and arts and culture. Its fourth program, community initiatives, is concentrated in 26 communities where the Knight brothers published newspapers, but the foundation is wholly separate from and independent of those newspapers.
